MAKING SPIRITS - AND UNDER EYES- BRIGHT THIS SEASON!

One thing I know is true is that the older I get, the busier I get

and the darker my under eyes become. Sigh.

Although I'm a professional makeup artist, I am still always learning and trying out new techniques and products to not only find the perfect tools that work on everyone, but also how to use those products correctly to achieve a flawless look.

One thing I always hear from my clients is that their under eyes get creased or "crepe" and look dry after applying concealer, SKIN PREP IS EVERYTHING.

Prepping the under eye prior to applying makeup is ALWAYS your first step.

I suggest the SONIA ROSELLI WATER OIL under the eyes just prior to applying concealer. I love this water oil because it's not heavy + "oily" like you would think, but it's super light and soaks right into the skin without allowing the makeup to "slide".

A little goes a long way and is especially useful in these dry, winter months.

Shake before applying and allow a couple minutes to soak in before you go in with your concealer.

PRO TIP: if you have dry skin all over, squirt your foundation onto your brush or sponge and then a squirt of the water oil right on top of the foundation still on the brush. Blend out flawlessly and it will give your skin + foundation a surge of moisture!

NEXT, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED SOME TOOLS!

To apply my concealer, I have two faves! I love to use a damp (or dry, your preference!) beauty sponge and pounce under the under eye area. I also LOVE the Luxie Beauty 660 brush for a flawless, unconventional brush that I dupe as a concealer brush.

MY TOP CONCEALER PICKS:

Tarte SHAPE TAPE is definitely a fan favorite + full coverage. To be honest, when it first launched, it took me a while to warm up to. I felt like it was just too heavy.

Once I learned how to maneuver the product + properly prep the under eye area, this product quickly became a kit + personal staple.

I love the vast variety of shades and if I need EXTRA coverage, this is perfect as a all over foundation. Yep, I said it. I've use this ALL OVER more times than you can count.

ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR CONCEALER is another kit staple!

These also have a wide range of shades, but I do find these fall mostly in the more golden undertones for the variety of shades I have.

This concealer is medium-to-full coverage and is definitely buildable and not too heavy!

MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY FULL COVERAGE CONCEALER is one I used the entire summer!

It also offers a great shade range, full coverage-- at drugstore pricing!

It definitely is super-stay! I feel like I can even use this concealer without a setting powder...which is a bonus I love!

MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND CONCEALER is another great choice...and seems like I just have a thing Maybelline concealers from the drugstore!

I love the easy, sponge tip applicator and how this is medium-to-full coverage under the eyes.

It's not as heavy as the shape tape or superstay and does not crepe or feel dry!

SET IT AND FORGET IT

Last, But certainly not least. We need to be sure our concealer sets + stays all day to prevent creasing + movement!

I recommend the LAURA MERCIER TRANSLUCENT LOOSE SETTING POWDER!

This setting powder is offered in 3 shades, as well as a glow powder option. * DO NOT use the glow under the eyes...it accentuates fine lines and is not a friend to the under eye area.

The original setting powders however are hands down my favorite + a product I use personally and professionally every application!

I hope these little product + tool, tips + tricks help you narrow down the search for best concealer and have you achieving the bright under eye that helps you shine into the holiday season!

PS: I also recommend choosing a shade 1-2 shades lighter to give you dimension!
